EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS are being coopted by the New Age movement, and most don’t even know it. Much of the reading we’ve been doing this week has revolved around that fact, and a good part of tonight’s show explores some of the evidence. In short, dominionists, emerging churchers, and ecumenical groups are all aiming for the same goal as New Agers: heaven on Earth. Which may explain, for example, why influential New Ager Paul Temple, founder of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, donates so much money to the secretive and politically connected evangelical group The Family.
WE THOUGHT we’d name tonight’s show to match the web page our hosting company serves up half the time lately. That’s what we get for signing up with a company named for the king of the Abyss (see Revelation 9:11 — 9/11… coincidence?).
Anyway, this was a week of speeches: President Obama to America’s schoolchildren and to the U.S. Congress, some of whom, according to certain pundits, behaved like schoolchildren. While we sympathize with Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), we Christians have to recognize that the government is part of the enemy’s domain, granted by God after the Tower of Babel incident (see View From the Bunker #8 with Dr. Mike Heiser).
Our weapons in this war are spiritual: prayer and fasting–not political action committees, Supreme Court justices, or guns. We need to avoid getting so caught up in the political discourse that we forget. In other words, follow God’s will and avoid the internal server error.
PREPAREDNESS, AS any Boy Scout knows, is important. Even the ancient Canaanites knew it, as evidenced by the recently discovered 26 foot high walls built with 4-5 ton boulders in Jerusalem. The walls connected to towers with walls 12-and-a-half feet thick, all to guard the path to the city’s only water supply, the Gihon Spring. So who or what was such a threat in 1800 B.C. that you needed 26-foot walls to keep them out?
