IT APPEARS that regardless of who wins the United States presidential election nine days from now, our drone war against suspected terrorists (and anyone within an acceptable radius, from a collateral damage standpoint) will continue without interruption.
The CIA wants more drones and more places to launch them, the White House will still have a secret capture/kill list, and if you dare question the moral or constitutional justification for killing four-year-old girls over there to limit the possibility that four-year-old girls here get killed, well, you’re “a horrible moron.”
Also: Fiscal cliff ahead; head of Bank of England admits that banks don’t have enough capital; Sandy takes aim at East Coast; and something falls into a Mexican volcano.
Forgive us — we forgot to come back to the creepy story of the drone that “started its engine without any human direction, even though the ignition had been turned off and the fuel lines closed. Technicians concluded that a software bug had infected the ‘brains’ of the drone, but never pinpointed the problem.” Obviously, there’s a Cylon in your future.
Thanks to Adam Curry for inspiring the title.

I don’t buy that every leader is chosen by God. I don’t see it in the Book. He is the God who places and removes leaders at His will when it suits His plan but He is not the God who chooses each and every leader at the expense of free will. You might argue that leadership as a concept was established by God but certainly not each individual leader is chosen by God. Do we really need to drag out Hitler to make the point. Discussing whether or not God installed Obama as an act of divine will is pointless unless you are privy to some divine revelation. It is unknowable.
Edited to tone down my snarky reply. My apologies for letting that creep into my original note — there was no call for that. — DG
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. (Romans 13:1-2)
It’s uncomfortable, but I don’t know any other way to interpret those verses.
We talked about the example of a leader who asks Christians to act contrary to scripture. And how can we say that Hitler didn’t serve God’s plan in some way, even though he clearly was antichrist? There are examples of God using pagan, and even brutal, men for His purposes in the Bible. Nebuchadnezzar, for one, who was the Saddam Hussein of his day.
You may have already seen this but Brad Meltzer did a “Decoded” episode on, “Is There Really Gold in Fort Knox”. It was quite interesting. Below please find a YouTube link to the first part of the episode:
