Philip Garrido and Angelo Mendoza |
NO, HEARING voices definitely isn’t a good sign. After learning about the horrific story of Angelo Mendoza, the man who’s accused of biting out the eyes of his 4-year-old son, we noticed a low-level meme running through the news — literally dozens of stories in recent weeks about crimes from murder to rape to arson to suicide allegedly committed by people who claim to hear voices.
The medical community will no doubt attribute the claims to schizophrenia or attempts to build a criminal defense by claiming insanity. But why do all of these reports involve voices urging people to commit acts of violence on others? Why don’t these voices ever encourage people to love their neighbors, study hard and turn in homework assignments on time, or dress warmly and eat lots of vegetables?
Our belief is that at least some of these people really are hearing voices, and those voices aren’t coming from beings loyal to God.

My gosh, that is truly a sad story. Stuff like that is even hard to read.
Praying for these two guys, they sound like they need all the prayers they can get. May the Lord heal them.

The Freak Show has started. Starring __________ Co-Starring LSD. (Luci). Pick your own delusion. You even receive transmissions especially meant for you, you’ve heard it all but NOT like this EVER. Welcome to hell.
Surely this is satanic. Mental illness does not make you satanic. People choose to go over to the dark and evil side, its a conscious decision whereas mental illness is not.
Be careful how people are branded. Like Derek and Sharon said, ‘being religious is not the same as being satanic’.
Derek & Sharon,
When you mentioned the protection provided by “He who is in us,” and the shield about us, my first thought was to the Armor of God and specifically the Helmet of Salvation. Our heads, our minds are protected through salvation. Also there is a renewing of our minds…that which influenced us when unsaved should cease to do so and the Holy Spirit will be our influence from then on and He always brings honor and attention to the Son.
The devotion today, 9/9, in Oswald Chambers, “My Utmost for His Highest” addresses putting our human, undisciplined impulses aside. So many well meaning Christians act out of impulse believing they are doing God’s will instead of checking first with God and seeing if it really is. Kind of like impulse buying can lead to financial hardships which does not testify to God, but our own fleshly desires. Leaves the Christian faith open to ridicule and association with those who “hear voices” and act out impulsively, whether they claim to be Christian or not.
We need to show ourselves as separated from the kind of activity that leads others to question God and His grace.
